Part III: Making It Real: Customer Discovery as Ethnography

Module 9: Your Own Customer Discovery Plan

Class dates: Mon Oct 26, Wed Oct 28 · Badge: 🧩 The Segmenter

Recap Atom (2-min orientation)

Welcome to this module. After serving someone else's problem, you return to your own and get organized for real fieldwork. The idea to carry throughout is one lens per community of value. Your problem does not land the same way on everyone who has it; different groups experience it differently and value different things about a fix. So you build a separate discovery agent for each segment, each one a lens tuned to a single community. This is also the mid-course checkpoint, where you pause to audit and harden the agent repo you have built. That checkpoint is a moment to grow, not a gate to pass.

Fractal Prompt

Here is the Seminar's central question from this week's angle: do we find, unearth, or create value? Aimed at segmentation, it sharpens into this: value is not one thing to one crowd; it is different things to different communities, so how do you listen to each community on its own terms rather than flattening them into an average? A single lens sees one version of your problem. A set of tuned lenses sees the real spread of value.

What you will make this week

By Sunday you will have several things: a Business Model Canvas version 1.0, a customer-discovery segment agent for each of your audience categories, your customer discovery underway in the field, a completed mid-course agent-repo audit, and your first growth self-assessment. This is the busiest building week of the course, and it is the one where your whole agent team comes together.

Where you are

If you are joining this week, you have lost texture, not prerequisite knowledge. You need your problem, your audience categories from Module 6, and ideally your CDO agent; if the CDO is not built, build it first (Module 7 walks you through it), because the segment agents report into it. The audit is a checkpoint open to everyone and blocks no one. The "Ask Wren" panel can orient you, and Wren facilitates the audit and the self-assessment this week. Wren Calloway is your course concierge.

Your notes for the week

These save on this device only. Once you are enrolled, your lab work saves to your course record.

The rest of this week is for enrolled students

You reach the gated sections when three things are true: you are signed in with a ProvenanceAI account, you hold an active ProvenanceAI Studio subscription, and you have redeemed the course access code your instructor gave your section. All three are required.
